Your Personality and Your Wardrobe
What we wear affects how we think. A study (in some dark room somewhere) revealed people who wore a doctors coat concentrated for longer than the group that didn't. Haha. Hilarious. We are not saying by wearing a pair of fake glasses you will get a promotion (but feel free to test this and let us know), but there is definitely something to "look smart think smart".
What we wear reflects who we are. And who we are directs what we wear. You rarely find an A-type person who has a diary with multi-coloured post-its wearing ripped jeans, scuffed sandals and an oversized tee. Maybe you are arty, a little messy. There is a high chance you love boho dresses and loud earings. And that's your personality creating your style. And this becomes almost your "uniform".
But, do you ever have those days where you open the overflowing cupboard and hear your ungrateful self moaning that you have nothing to wear? It's not that you have nothing (obvs), it's because we are wearing the same thing the same way, every time.
So we are challenging you to mix it up. Change up that style. Throw people off the scent. They think they know you. But do they? Pretty floral dress for the braai as usual? NO. Give them rock chick glam and a bottle of tequila (ok, not the tequila. We don’t need to scare them). And it’s not as hard as you think… a ruffle or touch of lace for a softer look or choosing neutral colours for more minamalism. A tad here and there, and it's like a new-old-you wearing new-old-clothes. Yes!
And here are some top tips:
- For a minimalist style add a tailored blazer, buttoned down shirt, and a string of pearls (and have a Jane Austin novel peaking out your bag just for complete kicks. Haha).
- For a rock chick style, think leather, distressed denim, band tees, and boots. Pair a leather jacket with ripped skinny jeans and ankle boots, or a graphic tee with a mini skirt and combat boots. Accessorize with studded belts and chunky jewellery, and don't be afraid to add a pop of colour, like a bright red lipstick and smack a massive kiss on a cheek or two.
- A bohemian style is all about flowing fabrics, lace, embroidery, and vibrant patterns. Pair long skirts or dresses with ankle boots, a denim jacket or a printed kimono. Boho accessories like layered necklaces, bracelets, and headbands can complete the look. Oooh a headband! Yes!
-
For a preppy style, opt for button-down shirts, polo shirts, blazers, and khaki pants. Pair with classic accessories like a leather watch or a structured handbag.
-
A minimalist style focuses on simple, clean lines and neutral colours. Stick to basics like a white tee, black trousers, and a trench coat. Minimalist accessories include small crossbody bags, delicate jewelry, and simple scarfs.
-
A romantic style is all about delicate fabrics, lace, and ruffles. Choose flowy dresses, blouses with bows, and soft colours like pink and lavender. Add romantic accessories like a floral scarf or delicate headband.
-
For a sporty style, stick to comfortable clothes like joggers, leggings, and sneakers. A denim jacket, a hoodie or a track jacket can complete the look. Accessorize with a sporty watch, a baseball cap or a backpack.
-
A vintage style incorporates elements from the past, such as high-waisted skirts, midi dresses, and flared jeans. Add vintage-inspired accessories like a beaded clutch, a brooch, or a retro scarf.
-
A glamorous style incorporates luxurious fabrics like silk, satin, and velvet. Choose a sequined dress, a fur coat, or a metallic blouse. Glamorous accessories include statement earrings, a glittery clutch, or strappy high heels.
